Janice Baker - Curator
Janice Baker is an educator and curator. Her work is focused on facilitating creative research projects and programs that support artists and environmental art history. Artists play a pivotal role in observing places and providing new ways of telling stories about local and global communities. Janice has curated many exhibitions, taught art history and critical theory, and authored publications on contemporary art and museums. She is interested in how artists and museums are confronting the climate challenge. Janice has a doctorate in museum studies and degrees in art history, literature and arts management.
Susanna Castleden
Susanna is an artist and Associate Professor at Curtin University, Western Australia where she is currently acting Dean of Research in the Faculty of Humanities. She completed a PhD at RMIT University in 2014 and continues to explore ideas of mobility, mapping, distance and proximity in her creative practice. Susanna has received several awards including the Linden Prize; runner up in the Fremantle Print Award; the Burnie Print Prize and the Bankwest Art Prize. Susanna’s work is included in major collections including the National Gallery Australia and the Art Gallery of WA. Susanna is a member of the Print Council of Australia, and is a Director on the Board of PICA.
Monika Lukowska
Monika Lukowska is a printmaking artist,educator and academic from Poland currently based in Perth,Australia.She obtained her MA from the E. Geppert Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Wroclaw, Poland in 2011, MFA from San Francisco Art Institute, USA in 2014 and PhD from Curtin University Perth in 2018. Lukowska’s artworks have been widely exhibited internationally, and she is a recipient of several awards and scholarships. She works as a sessional academic and research assistant at Curtin University and is Print Council of Australia Representative for Western Australia. In her practice, Lukowska investigates the intersection between traditional and digital printmaking, questioning how the experience of place can be embedded within the printed surface.
Melanie McKee
Melanie McKee is a Perth-based artist and academic and co-founder of Print LabAustralia.Melanie participated in an international study exchange program at the École des Beaux Arts de Paris and was involved with the Perth Centre for Photography from 2012-18. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, notably in group exhibitions at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou China, Goolugatup Heathcote Gallery Perth, La Central in Santander Spain, and a solo exhibition atTurner Galleries in Perth. Melanie has been awarded several grants to undertake and present her research and creative practice. Melanie was born in Zimbabwe and has lived in Perth since 2001.
Alana McVeigh
Artist Alana McVeigh is represented by Stala Contemporary in West Perth where she has held seven solo exhibitions. She has also participated in group exhibitions in Brisbane and Sydney along with international exhibitions in Finland, China and Denmark. Alana has presented workshops and papers at national and international conferences including ScanCeram 2013, Tolne, Denmark, Australian Ceramics Triennale, University of Sydney 2009 and the Verge National Ceramic Conference 2006, Brisbane. Alana’s work is held in private collections in America, Canada, Germany, Japan and public collections including the Zhou Guo-Zhen CeramicArt Museum,Anren,China and Sanbao China Cultural Exchange Museum,Jingdezhen,China. Alana completed her PhD at Curtin University in 2020 where she continues to work as a sessional academic.
Layli Raksha
Layli Rakhsha is an artist and academic in Perth,Western Australia. She was born in Iran and immigrated to Australia in 1999. Rakhsha completed her PhD at Curtin University,Western Australia in 2019. She reflects the social and cultural relationship between personal experiences, feelings and attachment to a particular place in most of her projects. Rakhsha has had several solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Australia and internationally. She was a finalist for the Alice Art Prize and Collie Art Prize. Rakhsha has been an artist in residence at different institutions and art centre such asVancouver Art Centre, Fremantle Art Centre (FAC), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) and Perth Centre for Photography (PCP). Rakhsha is currently a sessional lecturer at Curtin College and a community education consultant at Artsource.
Sarah Robinson
Sarah is an artist and creative practice-led researcher who completed her PhD at Edith Cowan University in 2017. Sarah has exhibited and presented her research widely as a Royal College of Art alumni. She recently curated Rising Futures 2022 and co- curated Transmedial: Expanding Technologies in Contemporary Printmaking 2021. In addition, she founded the NeoEvolution Print Space to articulate the technological shifts that affect traditional and digital methods of viewing the world. Sarah shows nationally and internationally, including at Carbon-Borders-Voices 2022 and Sydney Contemporary 2021, with works held in collections in the UK, WA, and China. She is a Printmaking Council of Australia, WA committee representative.
Sue Starcken
Artist, writer, curator and lecturer, with experience in community arts, museum studies, exhibition and events development, Sue Starcken is based in Western Australia. Her work is held in public and private collections locally and internationally and she has been published in a number of contexts. She has a masters degree in Medieval and Early Modern Studies from UWA, and BA Hons from ECU,WAAPA and SOCA. Currently the Art Collection Curator at ECU, she has exhibited in many group exhibitions at venues locally and internationally. Sue is a former board member and representative for Artsource and the Mundaring Arts Centre.
